Villiers School Recognised as a Jigsaw One Good School™
Villiers School proudly accepts recognition as an official Jigsaw One Good School™. This national award celebrates our school community’s proactive and inclusive efforts to support youth mental health and wellbeing. In 2023/24, we completed this transformative two-year initiative and joined 17 other Limerick schools acknowledged by Jigsaw for their commitment.
Jigsaw’s One Good School™ initiative offers a unique, whole-school framework to promote positive mental health for young people. Grounded in national education and health policy, the programme brings together students, staff, leadership, and parents to share responsibility in fostering a mentally healthy school environment. Over the past two years, Villiers embraced this opportunity, established a dedicated One Good School Team, delivered workshops, completed staff training, and promoted student voice in every corner of our school.
Our school community, led by our One Good School team, participated in a range of impactful learning experiences, including:
- Student-led Peer Education programmes that empowered young people to deliver their own mental health workshops.
- Innovate for Wellbeing – This was a social action initiative co-designed with Young Social Innovators, where students explored mental health through creative, community-focused projects.
- Online and in-person training for teachers and staff to improve mental health literacy, enforce supportive relationships, and build tools so that they can better respond to student needs.
- Webinars and workshops that were designed to promote well-being in the home by supporting families through parent and guardian engagement.
Throughout the programme, Villiers participated in learning sessions alongside other schools in the region, exchanging ideas and building on their learnings in the hopes of embedding long-term change within the education sector, locally and nationally. Our collaborative efforts have been guided by the belief that every young person deserves to feel safe, heard, and supported in their school.
We look forward to building on this momentum and continuing to lead in youth mental health promotion in Limerick and beyond. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Jigsaw for their outstanding work in supporting the mental health of young people across Ireland. Their dedication, resources, and collaborative approach have made a meaningful difference in schools like ours. Villiers deeply values Jigsaw’s commitment to creating a future where every young person feels heard and supported, and strives to continue prioritising these values within our school community.
