This Years Transition Year Drama is Ellis Island. Villiers School is holding the Irish Premier of the play on the 20th and 21st of December in the newly refurbished Belltable Arts Centre, Limerick. Rehearsals have been running weekly after school since the beginning of October, with over 50 students involved. Ellis Island is written by Limerick playwright Mike Finn, and is directed this year by Ann Blake and former student Maeve Stone. Set in 1907, Ellis Island follows the adventures of a young Irish woman, a poor Italian family and a Jewish tailor, as they cross the Atlantic in search of a new life in a new land. As they share their hopes and dreams they are unprepared for the challenges that face them on the famous Ellis Island. Interspersed with the memories of other emigrants and the tale of Edward Corsi, an emigrant who rose to the position of Ellis Island governor, the play is a heart-warming, epic re-telling of one of the world's most enduring sagas - the struggle for a better life in a better place. We look forward to your support in what promises to be groundbreaking premier - a great nights entertainment is guaranteed……… laughs, excitement and maybe some tears. So book early to avoid disappointment.
