ADULT EDUCATION CLASSES SEPT 29th - DEC 8th 2011

Villiers has been running night classes for twenty five years and strongly encourages adult learning. This year the school has twenty courses on offer. The programme includes a great variety of subjects including Literary Studies and Creative Writing, Philosophy, Yoga and Tai Chi. Both Spanish and French are taught by native speakers and the emphasis is on acquiring conversational skills. Creative subjects include Metalwork, Quilting and Embroidery Design, Watercolour and Mixed-media painting. Other favourites include Digital Photography, Computers and Bridge. Some new and exciting courses include Sculptured Gel Nails, 'Healthier You'- a cookery and nutritional class that focuses on promoting wellbeing through diet and lifestyle. For those interested in self-defence and more vigorous exercise we have introduced 2 new classes Taekwondo and Aerobics. Other new classes include Gardening Design and Flower Arranging. All the classes run for ten weeks. Enrolment for any of the classes is on Thursday 22nd of September 2011. Every Thursday night Transition Year students run a café, selling tea and coffee and are also involved in managing the car park.

CREATIVE WRITING and LITERARY STUDIES

Tutor: Siobhan Higgins (currently in her final year studying her doctorate in English in UCC)
Content: An introductory course designed for those with a love of English and a desire to improve their writing skills by looking at literature, drama, poetry, film, etc.

INTRODUCTION TO PHILOSOPHY

Content: A series of lectures that study the general and fundamental issues connected with existence, knowledge, values, reason, mind and language.

Content: This course provides people with nutritional information and cookery demonstrations using wholefoods and organic ingredients. Price includes all ingredients, notes and recipes, etc.

Content: Focus is on Garden Design, exposing students to various examples of traditional, contemporary and current garden designs. Students work on their own designs and plant selection etc. Students guided through process.

Content: Elizabeth owns and runs her own shop in Nenagh and has much experience with teaching. Recent classes given were in Castletroy College and Teagasc in Dublin.

ENROLLMENT: Thursday 22nd September 2011 VILLIERS SCHOOL 6.00 - 8.00PM. All courses are 10 weeks duration and commence Thursday 29th September 2011 (unless otherwise stated). All courses are 2 hrs long except for YOGA, TAI CHI and TAEKWONDO which are 1.5 hrs long.
