Senior students are assessed formally at regular intervals each term and the results of these assessments are communicated with parents/guardians by report. All members of the teaching staff are willing to discuss any student's academic progress at any time during the school year. Many are available for informal meetings with parents/guardians at times of mutual convenience. As well as mid term assessments, senior students are also examined at Christmas and at the end of summer term. Pre-Leaving Certificate examinations are held in the spring term for sixth year students, providing an invaluable insight for them into their progress.
The Leaving Certificate programme offers students a broad and balanced education while allowing for some specialisation. The certificate is used for the purposes of selection into further education, employment, training and higher education.
The examination is the terminal examination of post-primary education. It is held at the end of the Senior Cycle in post-primary schools. The Senior Cycle caters for students in the 15 to 18 year old age group. The majority of candidates who sit for the examinations are 17 or 18 years of age and have completed 5 or 6 years of post-primary education.
The examination is offered in the following subjects, at either Higher or Ordinary levels.
