T.Y Fashion Show

By Hilary Thompson

It is hard to believe that I am teaching twenty years in Villiers this year! Time goes so fast when you're having fun., which is exactly what it is. Now don't get me wrong there is a Trojan amount of work involved to put this Show together every year, but it works really well and always turns out a huge success on the night.
It all started when teacher Geoff Penney called me back in 1980 and asked me to meet him and discuss this idea for Transition Year Students in the school. I started with 12 students for my first show and the rest is history. With every passing year the show has got bigger and bigger and now the average amount of students taking part in it is over sixty every year with nearly as many boys as girls!
This in my opinion is a great opportunity for Transition year students as it gives them the chance to express themselves and develop their confidence .
Also a lot of charities have benefited from the proceeds throughout the years such as Self Help, Aware & Haiti to name but a few.
Villiers Transition Year Fashion Show - 20 Years in Review
The training of the students commences about six weeks before Fashion Show which is held late October every year .All the students get the opportunity to get to participate in some way in this event. Some students who may not want to model help design the sets for the backdrop and stage. So what I find very beneficial to these students is the bonding in organising this show and demonstrating their artistic talents. Each year we pick a theme and work the staging/props around it. There is also a committee formed to help run the event as over twenty shops take part at this stage.
I really enjoy the challenge each year of working with this age group and when the day of the show arrives the buzz is amazing!
Adeela/X-pose have sponsored the show from the beginning which is much appreciated by all involved.
The Hugh Campbell Hair Group look after the students' hair styles every year and on the day of the show they make all their salons available to the students . We also try and organise a make-up artist . The Ramp and staging is built by Mike Kearsley and Jim Grace so it really is a very professional operation and of course John McCrohan from Transition Year keeps me sane every year! Also I would like to thank all the Villiers Staff as they have always been very supportive of this show helping with ticket sales and administrative duties. To see all the students taking to the ramp and blossoming on the night with such confidence and determination and to watch all the proud parents in the audience makes it all worthwhile.
Roll on next year!!!

Villiers Annual Fashion Show 2011

Villiers Annual Fashion Show took place at the school Gymnasium on Wednesday October 26th at 8pm.
As usual there was much demand for tickets and those organising the show were kept on their toes.

Hillary Thompson and her models put the latest Villiers models through their paces as modelled clothing
from over 20 local shops, including Seduzca, Diesel, Jack & Jones, Be Fabulous and Virginia's Boutique.

Compere for the night was Mr. Penney and we were delighted to raise much needed funds for Villiers favoured charities.
