Basketball in Villiers

Basketball is an integral part of our after-school and extra-curricular activities' programme. Girls and boys are offered the opportunity to learn the basic skills of the game in a structured but fun environment.
First formers are introduced to the game in the first semester with the expectation that they will learn and develop the skills for participation in organised competitions at local and national level by October and November of that first term. Through participation in a variety of skills'
practices, minor and modified games, rule interpretation and varied practices to help in the understanding of the dynamics of team efficiency, students are enabled to make appropriate decisions on their evolving level of tactical awareness and prepared and encouraged to represent their school and to join basketball clubs in their localities. It is our objective that the students will get a sense of personal fulfilment by achieving a level of success through participation in both training and competitive play situations.
The girls currently play in the Limerick School Girls Basketball League in distinct age groups. The League caters for Minors and Second years which guarantees that all players play two quarters and Cadette or under 16 and Seniors.
Boys play in the local Limerick League and at national level in the South East Region League (Munster and Leinster).
